Use NotebookLM for Source-Grounded Study

Turn selected lectures, notes and readings into study materials while checking every important claim against the original source.

🎯 What It Helps You Do

Multimodal Power

NotebookLM doesn't just read text anymore. It can now listen to audio, watch videos, and help you visualise complex ideas.

  • Audio Overview: Turn selected readings into a discussion-style overview.
  • Video to Notes: Summarise YouTube lectures in seconds.
  • Text to Visuals: Generate data for mind maps and infographics.

Grounded, But Not Magic

NotebookLM works from the sources you provide, but it can still miss, over-summarise or misinterpret material.

  • Focused Source Set: Use a small, relevant set of readings rather than dumping everything into one notebook.
  • Citations are Key: Every claim links back to your specific slide or page—you must click these to verify.
  • Privacy Depends on Account Type: Check whether you are using a personal account or an institution-approved Workspace account before uploading sensitive material.

Critical Warning: Hallucinations Can Still Happen

Using your own files makes NotebookLM much safer than ChatGPT, but it does not guarantee 100% accuracy. The AI might still misunderstand a sentence or combine two unrelated facts.

Always click the inline citation numbers to verify the source text before using it in your work.

New Feature Guide

POPULAR

AI Podcast

Also known as Audio Overview. This turns selected readings into a discussion-style "Deep Dive" between two AI hosts. Use it for orientation, then check the original sources.

✨ Tip: Download the MP3 and listen while walking to campus.

Video Reports

Paste a YouTube URL (e.g., a recorded lecture or educational documentary). NotebookLM "watches" it by processing the transcript and lets you ask questions, summarise key arguments, or compare the video to your textbook.

Slide Deck Prep

Need to present? Ask NotebookLM to "Generate a 10-slide outline for this topic." It will give you the title, bullet points, and speaker notes for each slide based on your sources.

Quiz & Flashcards

Stop manually typing cards. NotebookLM can instantly generate:

  • Multiple choice quizzes with answer keys.
  • Flashcard tables (Term/Definition) you can paste into Anki or Quizlet.

Mind Maps & Visuals

Visual learner? Ask: "Create a text-based mind map of these concepts" or "Suggest data points for an infographic on this topic." It structures the information hierarchically so you can draw it easily.

Instant Study Guides

One click on the "Notebook Guide" button automatically creates a Briefing Doc, FAQ, Timeline, or Study Guide for everything you've uploaded.
